![]() For any Detroiters reading this, it was like the marinara dipping sauce you get from Jet’s (which is probably the second-most famous purveyor of Detroit-style pizza, after the inventor, Buddy’s ), or Little Caesar’s (which is also a Detroit institution, though not one Detroiters usually associated with Detroit style). I have to admit that, from an aesthetic point of view, I’ve never really liked the marinara sauce racing stripe on a Detroit-style pizza, but I love the taste of marinara – and the marinara on Pizza Hut’s offerings was bang on, exactly like you’d get in Detroit. ![]() It was also mostly white, a sign that it had not absorbed certain ingredients. The Pizza Hut version was a little too thin, especially at the edges of the pie. Usually it’s fairly thick, spongey and completely yellow from soaking up the butter. Usually a Detroit style will have square or close-to-square slices. The Detroit-style pizza is a unique type of pizza because of its shape. They were sliced a little differently, more like pizza “fingers”. But, you cannot mention pizza in the United States and fail to mention Detroit-style pizza. The two pizzas were in the traditional square shape, though a little smaller than most authentic Detroit-style pizzas. But on first glance, things looked promising. I struggled to pry the cardboard lids up, because they had been smashed into their respective crusts, half gluing it in place. When I got my order, I swear to God it even smelled different, and it reminded me of home. I decided to review two of the three pizzas on offer: the pepperoni and sausage and the cheese. The rest of the pizza was what you expect from Pizza Hut. Of course, this could be because of the person who made my pizza, but it was disappointing nonetheless. The corner pieces were especially lacking. I am an avid lover of crispy cheese and I was excited for this pizza because of it, but unfortunately, there was a noticeable lack of crispy cheese around the crust of the pizza. They crisped up nicely in the oven and added great texture as well as flavor. I have always been a supporter of the small pepperoni cups over normal pepperoni found at other pizza chains. I got the double pepperoni and the small pepperoni cups were excellent. ![]() It was very bright and acidic, but there was a taste to it that was not enjoyable. ![]() It has an unpleasant flavor that I’m not able to describe, but it made the pizza very difficult to eat because of how much I did not like it. The new sauce they are using IS NOT good. ![]()
